Artistic Journey - A Path to Creating Life

Description

I believe that my artistic journey all began when I was 4 years old,the time that I started drawing.

I remember at that age I used to draw stick people and funny looking circle shaped people with stick arms and legs and cone hats,my very first interpretation of my characters, that have evolved into their current forms and were at the time,my secret friends even family.

At the time drawing was one of my favorite pastimes, and I was given the gift to see, hear, and even touch them and was able to place their exact appearance on paper.I still have the same gift today to some extent.

At first I couldn’t see their exact appearance when I was four but as time went by,I began to see them for who they were and I improved my ability to place their exact appearance on paper and eventually the computer, and to eventually bring them to life,my ultimate goal. With this in mind, it began my journey of my life project that I call Project Oridon.

The beginning of Project Oridon began

I’ll never forget that when I was in fourth grade I got my first game console, the Gamecube.I didn’t realize what I really wanted to do until I played Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance.

I noticed how realistically everything seemed to move from the characters to the environment, which allowed me to I looked back at my “world” that I created when I was 5 and thought “Hey, maybe I can bring it to life by creating it as a game”,

In addition, since the characters that I created didn’t really have a place to live in,I decided to make them one which I called Oridon.

So this began my journey to virtually “bring Oridon to life”

Since then I’ve always dreamed of seeing my characters just as I had saw them when I was 4,they all seemed to move and act as if they were real, and I now knew that I found the secrets to make them seem real;the secrets of virtual reality.

From then on, I began to buy games and not only did I play them I began studying them trying to reveal the secrets that they contained.

Thorough looking at behind the scenes content of several games and animated movies,I knew that the ultimate tool to complete my goal was indeed the computer.

At about my seventh grade year, since I got a computer I was able to get tools that the computer offered to began constructing on my nearly lifelong project of “creating Oridon in virtual reality”.

Then I found the next tools to further propel me to success,Blender 3d and Gimp.

As years went by I became skilled with Blender, being able to model characters in Blender just as skilled as I could with drawing them on paper

At about the same time and throughout high school by gaining more technology such as a 3 in 1 printer/scanner/copier and a light table and finding the next ultimate tool to further construct Oridon,Gimp, this not only greatly improved my drawing skills but it seemed to make my childhood characters more believable,in addition as I expanded my research

to different topics such as world cultures, literature, nature, music, pop culture, etc, and even with my own events and ideas throughout my life, I found ways through storytelling and writing to make my Oridon characters and its worlds interesting, different, well developed and gain the characteristics that made everything in Oridon seem as if it was truly real.

Currently, my journey has taken me to the Art Institute of Raleigh-Durham.

As of right now and as I further my studies within the Game Art & Design Program,I will learn the “tools” that will chisel my current progress of Project Oridon which I feel is nearing its completion and at the same time expanding itself to beyond ways that I could ever dream about.

And eventually,I will use the computer’s power to animate Oridon and breathe life into it’s stillness.

For this particular drawing and the theme it portrays I used one of characters Adam

since he is basically the physical manifestation of Oridon, including  all of my other characters living within Oridon.

This theme that I used for this drawing and the inclusion of him makes perfect sense hence that Adam is part Frankenstein monster, and that every character and location of Oridon is a piece of him representing parts of his body and what not, and that my main motive is to virtually “create life” by using my knowledge and research from past years to eventually piece together and in this case “stitch” together my life long dream of bringing Oridon to life.

The computer and the lightning emitting from it shocking Adam to life symbolizes the computer’s power to bring things to life just with the click of a button or the press of a key.

The blueprint and galaxy backgrounds symbolize the transition from planning to success and the process of improvement.

In summary, from planning it out beyond paper by drawing to bringing it to life on computer,This has been my artistic journey thus far and beyond the future.
